For those interested in the broader history of the Kettle Valley Railway, there are many places to visit apart from the Othello Tunnels, including:
The Kettle Valley Steam Railway, near Pentiction, which features a restored 1912 steam locomotive that runs along the only remaining portion of the KVR track. Naramata Rock Oven Park, which consists of a collection of stone ovens built by workers during the construction of the KVR. Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park, which combines stunning natural beauty with sections of the KVR. For those interested in visiting other, nearby, Historic Places of Canada, be sure to visit: The Royal Engineer’s Road, which served as the main trade route over the Cascades in the early 1900’s. Chilliwack City Hall National Historic Site of Canada, a lovely city hall constructed in the classical Beaux-Arts style, and commemorates the area’s fallen soldiers. |
